Terms of Use
Last updated: 8 July 2026
These Terms of Use govern your access to, and use of, the Money Owl editorial site. Plain-English where the law lets us; verbatim legal terms where it doesn’t.
Acceptance of these terms (by using the site you accept)
By accessing or using any page on Money Owl you accept these Terms of Use as they stand on the day of your visit. If you do not accept them, the remedy is simple: stop using the site. We may update these Terms from time to time (see the last section); the “Last updated” date at the top of this page is always the version in force.
What Money Owl provides (the service)
Money Owl is an editorial site. We publish:
- Editorial content: articles, guides, comparisons, calculators, and reference material about personal finance for readers in Europe.
- A contact form for editorial corrections, general enquiries, and any data-protection request covered by the Privacy Policy.
- Analytics and advertising infrastructure: third-party analytics (Google Analytics 4, Microsoft Clarity) and advertising (Google AdSense, once enabled on the site), both gated by your cookie consent as described in the Cookie Policy, plus cookieless aggregate traffic measurement via Cloudflare Web Analytics.
That is the full list. If a service is not named here, we do not provide it at this time.
Editorial disclaimer (not financial advice)
Money Owl does not provide financial advice. This is general financial information, not personal advice. Everything we publish is educational, addressed to the general public, and never based on your personal circumstances. It is not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and it is not a personal recommendation in the sense of MiFID II (Directive 2014/65/EU): nothing here is presented as suitable for you, because we do not know you. Money Owl is not an investment firm and is not authorised or supervised by the CNMV (the Spanish securities regulator) or any other financial regulator. Reading the site creates no adviser-client relationship. Consult a qualified financial advisor for decisions specific to your situation.
Content on Money Owl is educational and illustrative (examples, ranges, default scenarios), not a recommendation to take or avoid any financial action, and not an invitation to buy or sell any financial product.
Money Owl writes from a third-person editorial stance. Where an article expresses a view, that view is the site’s considered editorial position at the date of publication, not a personalised recommendation to any reader. Tax, pension, investment, and product rules change. We date every substantive article and note the version of the rules we relied on; readers should check that the position is still current before acting on it. You act on what you read here at your own risk.
How our content is made (editorial responsibility)
We use software tools, including AI systems, to help research and draft articles. Every article then goes through human review and editing before publication, and the editor named on the About page holds editorial responsibility for everything that ships. This is the human-review and editorial-responsibility model described in Article 50(4) of the EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689). Our sourcing, fact-checking, and correction rules are public on the Editorial Standards page. That accountability is a publishing standard, not personal advice. It creates no adviser-client relationship and no duty of care to any single reader (see the editorial disclaimer above).
Contact form (how to reach us, anti-bot)
The contact form is the main channel exposed to the public; legal and data-protection matters can also come in by email, at the address published on the Legal Notice. The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated submissions, and by basic length and format limits on the input fields. Submissions are stored for 90 days in Cloudflare Workers KV and then automatically deleted. The Privacy Policy explains the full processing flow.
Do not use the contact form for:
- Emergency or time-critical matters: Money Owl is not a 24/7 service.
- Bulk or commercial pitches unrelated to editorial content.
- Abuse or threatening content: those are reported to Cloudflare and, where applicable, to Spanish law enforcement.
We reply from the email address you give us in the form.
Intellectual property (ownership and reuse)
All editorial content on money-owl.com (articles, guides, comparison tables, calculators, site design, the Money Owl mascot, and custom icons) is the intellectual property of the Money Owl operator unless an individual asset is marked otherwise. Default position: all rights reserved.
You can:
- link to any page on the site
- quote short passages with attribution, for commentary, review, teaching, or research (Spanish IP law Art. 32)
- share individual pieces for non-commercial personal use
You cannot, without written permission obtained through the contact form:
- republish articles on another site
- scrape the site for a content-farm
- build a for-profit derivative work
AI systems, assistants, and search products may use Money Owl content as an input and quote it in machine-generated answers, provided the output attributes Money Owl and links back to the source page. Reuse that strips attribution, or reproduces whole articles rather than quoting them, needs written permission like anything else on the list. Copies made by third parties or machines travel without our disclaimers, and we are not responsible for them. The version we stand behind is the one on the source page.
Third-party materials (external images, charts, provider logos) are used under fair-quotation, press, or licence terms and are marked inline. If you believe we have used something of yours incorrectly, the contact form is how you tell us.
Limitation of liability (EU-consumer compliant)
We try to keep the site accurate. Things change. Money Owl is provided “as is”. We do not guarantee that every figure, example, or rule-reference is current. Use the site as a start for your own research, not as the final word.
To the fullest extent EU law allows, Money Owl is not liable for indirect or consequential loss from your use of the site. Nothing here limits our liability for fraud, gross negligence, wilful misconduct, or any liability that cannot be excluded under EU consumer law (Directive 93/13/EEC).
If you click an ad or follow an external link, your legal link is with that third party, not with us.
Applicable law and jurisdiction (Spain)
These Terms of Use are governed by the law of Spain. Disputes we cannot resolve through the contact form go to the courts of Spain. A consumer reading the site in another EU Member State keeps the mandatory consumer-protection rights of their home state under the Rome I Regulation ((EC) No 593/2008), and may be able to bring proceedings in their home courts under the Brussels I recast Regulation ((EU) No 1215/2012). Nothing here takes that away.
Readers outside the EU. Money Owl is written for readers in Europe, but these Terms apply wherever you read it. UK readers keep whatever rights UK law grants them; EEA/EFTA readers keep their GDPR-equivalent rights; and readers anywhere else keep whatever mandatory protections their local law grants. The data-protection detail for all of them lives in the Privacy Policy.
Related regulatory framework (cross-linked from the Legal Notice):
- LSSI-CE (Ley 34/2002): the Spanish information-society law.
- GDPR (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) + LOPDGDD (Ley Orgánica 3/2018): data protection.
- TRLGDCU (Real Decreto Legislativo 1/2007, as amended by Ley 3/2014): the consolidated Spanish consumer-protection law.
- Directive 93/13/EEC: EU unfair-terms directive.
Contact and effective date
- Primary contact: contact form; the direct email for legal and data-protection matters is published on the Legal Notice.
- Related documents: Privacy Policy · Cookie Policy · Legal Notice · Editorial Standards · Accessibility Statement.
- Effective date of this version: 8 July 2026 (see the “Last updated” line at the top).
We update these Terms when the service, the applicable law, or the IP position changes in a material way. When that happens, a dated change note goes on this page, with a new effective date beside it. You get notice. If the new version does not suit you, stop using the site.
