Statutory redundancy calculator

Work out the legal-minimum redundancy payment for your country, service, and pay, the floor nobody can talk you below (or, in Germany, the typical negotiated norm).

Statutory redundancy calculator

This tool covers Ireland, Britain, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and Germany. If your country isn't listed, its redundancy rules differ and this tool can't estimate your figure; check your national authority.

Choose your country above to see your statutory redundancy floor (or, in Germany, the typical negotiated norm). Redundancy pay is set by national law, not by the EU.

What this calculator does

A redundancy offer lands with a number on it, and the first thing worth knowing is which part is yours by law. This works out your statutory floor, the legal minimum nobody can talk you below, from your own country, years of service, and pay. Pick your country, enter your numbers, and read the result against your offer letter.

How this calculator works

Every country works the floor out differently, so the tool switches method the moment you pick yours. Ireland pays two weeks per year plus a bonus week, with pay capped at €600 a week. Britain is fiddlier: it bands the payment by age and caps weekly pay at £751. France starts at a quarter of a month per year, then rises to a third after ten years. Spain runs on 20 days per year, up to twelve months' pay. The Netherlands counts from your very first day, a third of a month per year, capped at €102,000 or a full year's salary if that is higher. Germany is the odd one out. It sets no floor at all, so we show the common half-a-month-per-year figure people negotiate towards, which is not an entitlement. Every result is gross, before tax. We last checked all of it on 11 July 2026; where a cap moves often, edit it under the assumptions and the estimate follows.

When to use it

Use it to sanity-check an offer before you sign anything: does the number at least meet your statutory floor? Everything above the floor is negotiable, and the tool deliberately stops at the gross legal minimum. It does not tell you what to accept. This calculator gives an educational estimate of the legal-minimum redundancy or severance payment in the selected country, based on figures Money Owl last checked on 11 July 2026.
