Jure Jaklič

Founder and Editor, Money Owl

Jure is the founder and editor of Money Owl, and the subject matter is mostly first-hand. He has lived and worked in six European countries, filed tax returns under more than one system, kept pensions on both sides of a border, and spent a stretch as a cross-border worker, the arrangement where two countries tax you and each suspects the other of doing it wrong. Slovenia changed its currency while he watched; a referendum later rearranged his banking. It was lived first, and the site followed.

Professionally he is a data analyst, 15-plus years of it: some inside a large European bank, where retail products and their fees get decided, some at a Big Four firm, reading the numbers underneath confident slide decks. The trade transfers better than it sounds. Read the dense part, distrust the headline, check the figure. Then say it so a busy person can use it.

He has invested his own money for more than a decade and reads regulators in four languages. These days he works for himself, in Spain. Working solo, every wrong figure is his to fix: corrections are dated and logged, and they stay in plain view. Nothing is quietly deleted.
